Take a Stroll Through The Vanilla Ice Project's Out-of-Control Outdoor Spaces

The Vanilla Ice Project is all about budget-friendly flips and teeny tweaks that make a big difference. Kidding, kidding: Rob and his crew pull out all the stops on their renovation projects, and the results are nothing short of jaw-dropping. Ready for a VIP tour?

Space-Age Splash Pad

How better to create a bit of kid-friendly commotion by the ocean (as Rob’s team puts it) than by constructing a rocket-ship water feature? Inspired by a trip to Florida’s John F. Kennedy Space center, this play space is on point.

Gateway to Paradise

When a property has “no pow and no wow,” as Rob put it, you’ve got to flip it all the way down to the curb — and he gave this once-ratty beach house an old-Hollywood-worthy opening statement.

Game On

A crusty old tennis court is now a dazzling multipurpose space: Using high-tech snap-in flooring, Rob redesigned the grounds for basketball, tennis, volleyball and soccer.

Crown-Jewel Pool

Underwater seating that bellies up to a brand-new recessed barbecue pit: Check. Unique zones for swimming, sunning and relaxing in the spa: Check. Marble walkways and coping: Check. “A pool is everything, especially here in Florida,” Rob explained. This backyard revamp rang in at $285,000, and it’s worth every penny.

A Pool Runs Through It

Understatement of the season: The centerpiece of this lakeside property is “more unique than any pool we’ve ever done,” Rob said. The shallow-water beach shelf sports a pair of Adirondack chairs on the exterior side of a massive sliding door, then flows into a pair of platforms in the home’s interior space.

Champagne Wishes

Spotlit with custom LEDs, the iridescent infinity edge on this champagne spa lets water flow directly into the moat encircling it. (Rob: “Just like a fine bottle of Cristal.”)

Infinity and Beyond

After $150,000 in renovations to this Lake Worth backyard, “you can keep the party going without ever leaving the pool,” as Rob put it. Water spills invisibly to the lakefront at the edge of the property, the patio transitions to a water-bound dance floor(!) and fiber-optic lights on the beach shelf are programmed to twinkle like stars.

Tropical Hideaway

Little adventurers can stay cool in this one-of-a-kind water feature. “If you let your imagination run wild,” Rob says, you can do anything you wanna do.” That’s an excellent reminder for kids and grownups.

Modern Dock

The renovation at this Lake Worth property peeled back superfluous structures (like an ugly, screened-in pool enclosure) and prioritized access to the spectacular shore. Water views, as Rob said, are what it’s all about — “at every angle and at every focal point.”

Conversation Pit

Forget those oh-so-’70s carpeted depressions you find in older vacation homes: The gathering spot in this resort-inspired space is a thoroughly modern outdoor fire feature.

Let the Games Begin

Any old outdoor entertainment area can handle, say, bocce or horseshoes. An Iced-out entertainment area, on the other hand, features an all-weather billiard table.

Inter-Coastal Kitchen

A host or hostess in this tricked-out prep space — complete with a Delta Heat barbecue, ceramic Kamado Joe grill and floor-to-ceiling custom masonry — can serve family and friends at a showstopping wraparound bar.

Intimate Aerie

Every property in and around Palm Beach has ample outdoor space, since getting out in that Florida sun is the name of the game. This property is head and shoulders above its neighbors, thanks to a massive second-floor deck that’s accessible from the master bedroom.

A New Leaf

This sitting area’s most unique feature gets glowing when the sun goes down: A one-of-a-kind, hand-sculpted LED tree cast gentle light on partygoers perched on the patio.

Something for Everyone

Fire bowls flank a picture-perfect view from the infinity pool at Rob’s Lantana project. By “infinity pool,” we mean, “seriously, there’s no end to what you can do out here,” as he and the team created a swim-up bar, a new hot tub and a lap pool.

Bring on the Buccaneers

What’s an ocean-view property without a pirate ship? Truth be told, we’re starting to suspect Rob began The Vanilla Ice Project just to have an excuse to dream up water-park-worthy play areas all day long.

Vanilla Ice Was Here

Rob has said that in many cases, homeowners don’t know that he and his crew were behind the renovated properties they purchase from his company. In this case, his Cupid-with-a-machine-gun logo — inlaid in the custom swim-up bar — is a pret-ty big hint.

Luxury Links

Rob and his team evicted the overgrown landscaping that stood between this massive pool deck and the waterfront, then brought in...yup, that’s a putting green right on the shore. Now golfers can practice their swings in the sun, and sweaty spectators can cool off on the massive concentric beach shelf.

Killer Serve

Beach volleyball is even better when you can stretch out on your own private lawn between games. It’s even better than that, in turn, when you can toss yourself in the pool (then swim up for a drink) at the end of the day.

Tiki on the Water

Rob partnered with Florida’s Seminole Tribe—the only group that has access to the special palms needed to make this structure’s roof—to create a special retreat on this property’s shoreline. (To add a high-tech component to the view, he installed a Sharp TV in the rafters.) What eco-friendly, cutting-edge details does he have in mind for Season Eight’s great outdoors? We’re not giving anything away — but we do suggest you keep your eyes on the skies.
