Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife, Amy, compete with Mother Nature and many other obstacles while renovating a historic home in Key West, FL. Their goal is to create a guest bedroom, bathroom and laundry room on the first floor, but reality quickly sets in when they discover unexpected damage to the flooring and foundation.
Amy Earnhardt plans to create an open flow between the kitchen, living and dining spaces, but rotted wood and extensive termite damage present a serious challenge. In between falling through the floor and incorporating support beams, Dale and Amy manage to transform the small, boxy rooms into airy and comfortable spaces for hosting family and friends.
The Earnhardts tackle the second floor and reconfigure the entire layout while dealing with dead rodents, cat poo and Dale Jr.'s enthusiasm for diving into projects without completely knowing what to do. Amy tries to balance Dale's penchant for shag rugs and anything orange to create warm and inviting master and guest suites.
Dale and Amy set out to transform their backyard jungle into a perfect space to entertain family and friends. They create the tile backsplash and a sink out of reclaimed materials and find a clever way to use a surfboard as a shower. Dale enjoys operating the excavator to dig out space for the pool, but the Florida heat rivals his experience in a race car.
