Nicole Curtis of DIY Network's Rehab Addict

As her legion of devoted fans already know, and as the new series points out right at the outset, Nicole Curtis is far from your everyday house flipper. Says Nicole: "I buy and sell houses, but I'm not your average flipper. I don't just renovate. I restore old homes to their former glory." And she's not kidding around. When it comes to authentic restorations, Nicole is something of a purist.

And though you may have heard rumors to the effect that she was done with restoring old houses, we're happy to let you know that those reports were highly exaggerated. Said another way, Nicole is back — full-force and with her trademark determination and intensity. She's now teamed up with Bobby Prothero, whom fans will remember from the "Surprise for Tessa" episodes that were a highlight of the last season. Bobby is now Nicole's lead builder and partner. "We built a business, just around our family schedules," says Nicole. "It gave us a chance to regroup and really start focusing on what we really wanted to do."

That brings us to the beginning of season 8, with Nicole juggling two renovations. The Ferndale House is an out-and-out charmer — in good shape and complete with many of its original features, including vintage woodwork and original bathrooms. It essentially just needs some TLC and freshening up. On the other end of the spectrum is The 14-Mile House, built in 1928 but robbed of much of its original vintage character through subsequent updates and, more recently, essentially gutted inside.

I put a bid on two houses on the same day and I won 'em both. We're back to saving old houses.

For Nicole, however, the scenario of two parallel projects serves more as challenge and inspiration than obstacle. The detail work and period features of the Ferndale house, for instance, will serve as a template for a full and faithful restoration of the 14-Mile house. Here's an example: Nicole uses the beautiful vintage stair railing and post columns in the former as models for vintage-look replicas to be added in the latter. The premiere episode also follows Nicole as she replaces broken out windows with leaded glass ones that are true to the home's period aesthetic.

You can give an old look to an old house, even when some person has ripped out everything in the house.
...I am absolutely not going to go and just put new parts in an old house. That is the last resort.
Nicole Curtis

Rehab Addict season 8 kicks off with the season premiere on October 4 at 9p|8c, and new episodes airing every Wednesday in the same time slot. And keep checking back here for additional air times, show updates and exclusive video.

Enough talk.  Break’s over. Let’s get to work!
