Circular Saw Basics

From household to heavy-duty models, there are several types of circular saws available to help get the job done.

The circular saw can be used to make straight cuts through almost any kind of material. Although the same cuts can be made with a table saw or a radial-arm saw, the circular saw has the advantage of portability. Several types are available, from household models to professional, heavy-duty versions.

The mini-circular saw is designed for small household projects such as cutting laminate. It's battery powered, so you can take it anywhere.

The 18-volt circular saw is also cordless but has a more powerful motor than the mini-circular saw. It's designed for heavier household projects.

The homeowner's saw is a basic model that can handle any household project. It's more heavy-duty than a mini circular saw and has a dust port for easy cleaning. Right-handed and left-handed models are available.

The framing saw has a worm drive that gives it a higher level of torque. This saw's small size allows it to fit easily between studs and rafters.
