A pair of sawhorses can support large items, such as plywood sheets or long lengths of lumber. Traditionally sawhorses were only made of wood, but now you can buy metal or plastic versions. Fold-down legs make portability and storage easy, and many models have adjustable height and width, making them even more versatile. The manufacturer will indicate the maximum weight the sawhorses can support.

Portable Workbench

These popular benches are good for securing materials, easy to use and most have folding legs, which make for easy storage. On some models, measurement calibrations or angle guides are marked on the adjustable slats to help with marking guide lines. Most have handles that turn to adjust the gap between the slats that hold materials in place.

Fixed Workbench

If you have the room for one, a fixed workbench provides an excellent working platform. It gives greater stability than a portable bench and large benchs can support bulky materials. It is easy to attach vises and clamps to a fixed workbench. Many models have drawers and shelving underneath for tool storage.
