Every spa-inspired bathroom needs the proper mood lighting to create a soothing environment. Licensed contractor Matt Muenster enhanced his-and-her vanities in this modern bathroom by adding creative picture-frame tops. Underneath the glass tops he added various rocks and pebbles and then spread LED rope lighting around the edges. When lit, the countertops appear as glowing rock bed gardens in a vibrant shade of blue.
Relaxing in this modern bathroom would be an effortless feat with the help of a sleek whirlpool bathtub. As an eye-catching centerpiece within the space, the unique bathtub features a cushioned lounge and bubblegum-pink surround with plenty of room for towels, magazines and accessories. Using a bold color palette fused with graphic patterns and stylish furnishings redefines retro in this room and creates the ultimate retreat for those seeking something entirely one-of-a-kind. Most people tend to play it safe when it comes to using tile, especially in a small bathroom. Caitlin Dowe-Sandes of Popham Design covered this bathroom, from the floor to the window seat, in colorful Moroccan cement tiles from her own company. A simple vanity and Moroccan-inspired accessories allow the bathroom to make a dramatic statement without appearing over-the-top.
Nothing speaks more to a tropical bathroom than an outdoor shower and surrounding stone privacy wall. With a clear glass door separating the two areas, the inside feels as though it just naturally continues into the outdoor space. Natural elements, like lush greenery and pebbles, ensure users get the full outdoor experience while showering. Design by Slifer Designs. Image courtesy of Slifer Designs
The designers at Danenberg Design added modern industrial elements with Asian flair to this spa-inspired master bathroom. Stainless steel accents and dark cement tile emit a cool feeling but are instantly warmed up by cherry cabinetry and inviting Asian accessories. The most unique part of this entire bathroom, however, is the suspended stainless steel structure on the ceiling that was created to represent a Japanese bamboo and reed shade trellis. Bring the Indoors Out
Matt Muenster certainly knows how to give an unused space a brand-new lease on life. Once neglected and uninviting, this courtyard is now an indoor-outdoor tub room featuring a floating tub, fresh succulents and a soothing waterfall. A painted privacy wall ensures the utmost comfort and adds a cool dose of color to an already tranquil space.
Stone Palazzo Tubs are a favorite among South Africa's "big five" game lodges because of their rugged finish that suits the surrounding landscape. To truly capture that out-of-Africa style, a safari game lodge used a rough stone appearance around the entire bathroom to create a dark, all-natural spa experience for guests. From first glance this family-sized bathroom may seem like a simple and stylish place to unwind, but its hidden details make it that much more interesting. The modern egg-shaped bathtub is made from crushed volcanic limestone, creating a sleek and glossy texture. Separating the tub from the giant walk-in shower is a small wall and console that also doubles as an attractive fire feature. Ash accents make up the stair leading to the lower level and help pull in some of the warmer hues around the space.
Designer Christine Jones knows how to think outside the box when it comes to creating an in-home getaway for these homeowners. A crisp gray color palette and state-of-the-art amenities immediately set the space apart from other modern bathrooms. Christine added several features, including a double shower with a floor-to-ceiling flower mural, his-and-her vanities with televisions built into the mirrors and a private infrared sauna.
Having a fireplace in the bathroom isn't too uncommon, but what about having one built right into a custom vanity below a flat-screen television? Matt Muenster was able to add plenty of wish-list gadgets to this tiny master bathroom, including a modern fireplace, a television and a body dryer. Another feature that sets this small space apart is its unique wood-tiled walls, a decor element that immediately adds visual warmth.
Designer Chris Barrett created this Moroccan-inspired room as a unique space for both lounging and bathing. Formerly a bedroom, the extra-spacious bathroom now features a canopy bathtub with fretwork panels, an elegant chaise lounge and a fireplace surrounded by blue-and-white hand-cut Moroccan tiles.
