Cut two pieces of felt the "under arm width" by 9” long. Then, take the bottom of each rectangle piece, and cut on a diagonal upwards towards the right to create two felt fabric pieces that are gradually getting smaller. This will become the tail of the shooting star.
Cut four pieces of elastic to 9”. Fold elastic in half to create a loop at the bottom. Pin the elastic loops to the top end of the felt. Sew in place to secure. These will be the arm and hand holes.
Apply fabric paint on the felt in a streaky fashion to imitate a comet-like appearance. Allow time to dry.
Cut two identical star shapes from the cotton fabric. Cut a piece of elastic to 9” and once again create a loop with it. Pin it to the top of one of your stars, facing down. Sew in place.
Place the other star on top of the star with the elastic, right sides together. Pin around the edges, enclosing the elastic in the middle. Sew all around, leaving one edge of the star UNSEWN so that you can turn it right side out later.
Use scissors to clip off all pointed edges as close to the sewn line as possible without cutting the stitches. Also, clip the seams in between the star points with a simple snip. Turn star right side out through the opening, and push all the star points out using either your finger or a blunt pointed object, like a knitting needle. Iron it flat and then stuff with Poly-fil.
