A custom envelope cover can be made to fit any size pillow/cushion insert. This type of cushion cover requires minimal sewing and no buttons or zippers. It is so easy to make you'll be swapping out covers often.
Pro Tip
Pre-wash and dry fabric prior to starting.
Step 1

Debbie Wolfe
Measure Pillow
Measure the length and width of the pillow insert you plan to use. For the width of the cushion add 1/2 inch for a seam allowance. For the length, double this width and add 3 inches to allow for the envelope overlap.
Step 2

Debbie Wolfe
Measure Fabric
Transfer these measurements to your fabric and cut.
Step 3

Debbie Wolfe
Hem
Sew a 1/4 inch hem at the two short ends of your fabric. These will be the edges of your envelope opening.
Step 4

Debbie Wolfe
Fold
With right sides facing, fold fabric in half making sure to overlap the double hemmed edges by 3 inches to create the envelope opening.
Step 5

Debbie Wolfe
Pin and Sew
Pin the sides of the cover and sew a 1/4 inch seam down each side of the cushion cover.
Step 6

Stuff the Pillow
Turn the cushion cover right side out. Give the cover a good press to get out wrinkles and stuff the pillow insert in.
