Trim the pompoms so that they are the same size. You will also need a few green pompoms for the stem and black pompoms if you want to make your pumpkin a jack-o'-lantern.

You can attach the pompoms a couple of different ways. If you leave a long strand, you can tie a knot and attach pompoms this way. I suggest starting at the edges like a puzzle and working your way in to the center.

Hot gluing the pompoms is also an option. The added bonus of this method is that the hot glue on the bottom of the placemat adds traction to the pompom rug so it's less likely to slide.

Add a grouping of green pompoms to the top of the pumpkin for the stem before completing the edges with orange pompoms. Before filling in the entire center of the rug, add black pompoms if you want your rug to look like a jack-o'-lantern.
