Jackie and Nicole love the location of their split-level home in a quiet suburb, but the kitchen is stuck in the past and bringing the whole house down. They've already removed a dividing wall, but need some help from Licensed Contractor James Young to figure out the next moves to make. He helps them add contemporary style with sleek aluminum cabinet doors, white quartz countertops and stainless appliances. The fireplace in the adjacent space is getting a facelift with recycled aluminum tile, and the whole area will be unified with maple flooring. Finally, a unique countertop made using agates will create a focal point on an L-shaped island.

Ryan and Susan are good at getting their hands dirty and love to tackle a renovation project here and there. So when they started to redo their kids' bathroom, they thought they could handle it and let's just say they got in over their heads. This DIY project went horribly wrong, which has led this family to not using this bathroom for about 6 months. Watch as host Jeff Devlin helps this couple transform their family's hall bathroom into a rustic, timeless, one of a kind space. Jeff installs a claw foot tub that doubles as a shower with reclaimed painted wood on the wall as the background and as a bonus puts stained glass in the center as an accent. Green porcelain tile with stone pinwheels is laid on a diagonal on the floor while a cool tin ceiling goes above. Jeff makes a custom storage cabinet as well as a custom vanity. Soapstone countertops and an antique trough sink with two faucets give each of Sue and Ryan's two kids a place to wash at the same time. A few extras include personalized kids robe hooks, a night light built behind the vanity mirror and a toilet so cool, this hall bath could become their favorite room of the house.

Their house is chopped up in to small rooms, especially their kitchen, so everyone goes their separate ways. Designer/contractor Chip Wade knows that, to bring the family together, he's going to have to make some massive changes in the home. Chip creates the gathering space by knocking down a huge feature: the fireplace that sits unused in the middle of the room. He also tackles the maze-like walls, knocking them all down to completely open up the space. The custom kitchen counter he designs has a cool home office feature and he creates a one-of-a-kind coffee table with something for everyone. Chip hopes he's created the perfect space for the family to congregate.
