Jackie and Nicole love the location of their split-level home in a quiet suburb, but the kitchen is stuck in the past and bringing the whole house down. They've already removed a dividing wall, but need some help from Licensed Contractor James Young to figure out the next moves to make. He helps them add contemporary style with sleek aluminum cabinet doors, white quartz countertops and stainless appliances. The fireplace in the adjacent space is getting a facelift with recycled aluminum tile, and the whole area will be unified with maple flooring. Finally, a unique countertop made using agates will create a focal point on an L-shaped island.

Kaytie & Nick's rambler in the city looks like a 1970s time capsule. From the smoky mirrors to the shag carpet, they've embraced the space for what it is, but after a year of suffering with their dark, closed-off kitchen, they are ready to start making changes. James Young's plan to take the kitchen into the 21st century include opening up the kitchen to the dining room, adding all new high gloss cabinets, and fabricating funky laminate countertops with a cool retro metal edge. The floor gets an urban vibe with wafer board joined with aluminum seams and covered in poly. Plus the backsplash will be a combination of green glass subway tile accented with vintage bottle caps.

Stephen Fanuka continues his work on the $3.5 million Chelsea townhouse renovation in NYC. After completely gutting the entire place, he discovers major foundation problems. The side wall on every level is tearing away from the back and front, and pure friction is holding the building together. Outside, more problems are cropping up when Fanuka tries to drill into the city sewer line to install a main line for the house. The bluestone sidewalks in front of the house pose a problem because they are landmarked, and if he breaks one he could get fined and lose his license.

His team painstakingly begins construction of the steel and glass penthouse on the roof of the townhouse when the neighbor interferes and stops work because they claim Fanuka is drilling into his personal wall. In the meantime, Fanuka begins work on a Tribeca bathroom renovation.
