The first place is a four-bedroom house in the suburbs that's listed for $220,000. There is carpet everywhere that needs to be replaced with hardwood floors, and the third bathroom is in the garage. The next place is also a four-bedroom house listed for just five grand more than the first, at $225,000. And it's right in the heart of the city. Both properties need about thirty grand in renovations, and would get about $2,750 per month in rent.

Unfortunately, their current space is run down, overgrown and cut off smack in the middle by a giant tree and a basketball hoop they don't even use. Landscape Designer Sara Bendrick decides to wipe the slate clean and remove it all, including the tree, which she chops up into discs to reuse in a patio. Other features include a concrete-topped bar, a dining area, a deluxe chicken coop, and a multi-purpose stage/lounge area.

They've already knocked out a number of remodels in the past year, but their imagination runs dry when it comes to the barren, dusty backyard. Landscape Designer Sara Bendrick comes up with a low-maintenance plan for their yard that includes a concrete paver system as groundcover, and a water feature made from corrugated metal & basalt tile. A large pergola will shade a dining area and expansive outdoor kitchen.

The main plumbing stack that runs between both rooms has a huge crack in it, causing years of water damage that has the wall crumbling at the touch. A room off the back of the kitchen seems to have no purpose until Nicole comes up with the idea to turn it into a home office.

Wes Borland and Carre Callaway explore the run-down Detroit mansion they purchased sight unseen. The amount of work they need to do to this house is overwhelming. They start off their renovations with the master suite, where they turn an adjoining bedroom into a walk-in closet that feels like a 1920s dressing room. The master bathroom is a total gut job but they're able to maintain the art deco style mixed with modern amenities. With windows and doors on every wall in the bedroom, Wes and Carre get creative by building a custom bed that frames one of the windows.

The kitchen was originally designed as a place for servants to work and eat, but Wes and Carre remodel it to make it functional for modern-day use. To convert this claustrophobic kitchen, tiles that run from the floor all the way up the walls and across the ceiling are removed and a wall is knocked down to give the area an open floorplan. Wes forges an art deco style light fixture while Carre repurposes cabinetry from other parts of the house and restores a 1920s dumbwaiter. The couple also finds a creative solution to remove old floral wallpaper.

The living room gets a fresh look while the sunroom becomes an art studio complete with a mobile pallet on casters. Wes uses wooden crates and pallets to create shelving that is truly a piece of art. The library is converted into a speakeasy that is tucked away behind a hidden door disguised as a bookshelf.

Two bedrooms and a bathroom originally used to house servants are converted into a cozy guest apartment where visiting family and band members can relax and spend the weekend. Reclaimed wood from a barn in Michigan is repurposed to create a wood accent wall with a built-in desk and shelving. To maximize the amount of guests that can sleep in the bedroom, Wes and Carre build a custom bunk bed with a trundle bed underneath. Repurposing this part of the house proves to be a huge challenge when water damage is discovered both underneath the wood floors inside and the metal flooring on the terrace outside.
