After paying a contractor to build a second story addition on their home, homeowners Don and Peggy are left with nothing but a bad shell. The contractor ripped off their roof and took off to Europe, leaving the inside of their home exposed to heavy rains for six days. The basement is destroyed and has become a breeding ground for mold, dry rot, and is now home to the biggest nest of ants Mike has ever seen. When things seemed like they couldn't get any worse, Mike is forced to deliver more bad new to the family: everything needs to go, including all of their belongings. The entire layout is re-designed, structure must be reinforced, and Mike closes in on making it right for this family.

Together they transform what was once an open wound, into an open-concept home.

Louise and Steve had RetroFoam installed in the walls of their home, but later find out it's banned in Canada due to the Urea Formaldehyde it contains. The family now suspects that the insulation is the culprit behind their son's respiratory problems. But when Mike and his crew start tearing things down, he discovers the issues go way beyond their walls. The house is littered with health and safety hazards, from mold infestation and animal carcasses, to rotted floor joists and illegal plumbing. Mike takes it all on to give this family a fresh start.

Mike even brings in boxing legend George Chuvalo to deliver this knockout performance and to remind the victim that you've got to keep rolling with the punches.

Mike comes to her rescue but soon realizes that she needs a lot more than just a shower. Cheryl is Deaf but doesn't have a 'Sign Language' friendly home, which turns this standard bathroom reno into a breakthrough project for Mike and his team.

Gill and Julie installed a one-of-a-kind wheelchair lift for their daughter Maya, who has Cerebral Palsy, only to discover that the $17,500 prototype doesn't work. Despite all of the major renovations they have already invested in their home, Gill has no choice but to continue carrying Maya up and down the stairs, which is only getting harder. Mike arrives on site to help give Maya her independence, but the goal proves to be more than a challenge. The trouble starts with just getting the old lift out, and Mike is forced to rethink his approach, redesign the layout and revise his plan to make it right.
