Beam Me Up, Scotty

Actor William Shatner, Star Trek’s original Captain James T. Kirk, and his wife Liz are taking on a brand new project – transforming their '80s home into a gorgeous Mediterranean dream.

Before: Overgrown Exterior

Before the renovation, the patio area was overgrown and in need of some TLC.

After: Updated Curb Appeal

After the renovation, the once-open patio is enclosed with stunning French doors. Sconces by the main doorway add an inviting touch to the home's entrance.

Before: Awkward Entry

Originally, the home's foyer was awkwardly placed and seemed small and plain in the Shatner's spacious home.

After: Practical Powder Room

A quaint powder room made better use of the small space and was a convenient addition to the home's makeover. Because the Shatners try to reuse materials whenever possible, the home's old entry doors now serve as the powder room doors.

Before: Dull Dining Room

Dark accessories, a large dining table and chandelier make the dining room feel smaller.

After: Stylish and Spacious

Now, a round table with light chairs and updated lighting give the room a fresh look. By knocking out one wall and adding a small bar instead of the buffet table, the entire home feels more open.

Before: Weighty Window Treatment

The heavy window treatment gave the dining room a very dark, traditional vibe.

After: A Ray of Sunshine

With the window treatment removed, more natural light floods the space, while the arc of the window adds to the home's Mediterranean style.

Before: Dark and Outdated

Large kitchen windows and charming ceiling beams prove that the Shatner's kitchen already had great bones. But the dark floor-to-ceiling cabinetry and outdated backsplash simply had to go.

After: An Enviable Cooking Space

Adding new appliances, removing the wall of cabinets, and brightening up the space with a new paint job transform the kitchen into a more modern, cheery space.

Before: Out of Sync

Two islands broke the kitchen up, making the room feel choppy and as if it was really two space fighting against one another.

After: Perfect Harmony

Now, one large island brings the front and back of the kitchen together, making the room a more useful place to prep meals and entertain guests.

Before: Closed-Off Kitchen

On top of the fact that the wall of cabinetry was too dark and outdated for the kitchen, the Shatners were searching for a way to give the kitchen a more open look.

After: Open and Inviting

By tearing down the wall separating the kitchen and dining room, the entire space feels more open and modern. To add a bit of drama to the space, a stunning custom light fixture was added above the island.

Before: A Good Start

A lovely mantel fixture, interesting ceiling detail and gorgeous white walls were the perfect jumping off point for the living room makeover.

After: A Charming Escape

Jaw-dropping light fixtures and a stone fireplace bring a more Mediterranean feel to the spacious living room.

Before: Cold and Stagnant

While the furniture is nice, it doesn't seem to fit the space. The living room lacks warmth and is in need of a style update.

After: Full of Life

Hardwood floors mimic the ceiling design and make the greenery around the room really pop. A neutral, patterned area rug is a cozy touch that pulls the room together.
