After: Mod With a Twist

Licensed contractor James Young and his crew created this modern kitchen and added industrial touches to keep it casual and relaxed. White high-gloss cabinets with orange accents and gray countertops give off a cool vibe while the reclaimed wood table, wood floors and stainless-steel appliances add an industrial touch.

Before: Mod With a Twist

This kitchen was small, clustered and dark. The shag carpet had to go and the room's style and amentities needed to be brought into this century.

After: Mod With a Twist

The flooring looks expensive, but it is actually 4' x 8' sheets of particle board laid side by side. The boards were coated with high-gloss polyurethane to provide a high-traffic finish and a bit of shine.

The circular wine storage contrasts nicely next to the rectangular backsplash. To make this easy DIY wine rack, stack a variety of PVC tubes insides a cubby or box.

After: Mod With a Twist

Vintage bottle caps were used to create a backsplash with a retro flair.

Reclaimed shipping pallets were used to build the dining table. Paired with midcentury modern chairs, the table adds a touch of rustic charm without a big price tag.

After: Fifties to Fabulous

This kitchen used to be stuck in the '50s. The homeowners had a remodeling budget of $3,000, so to make the most of it, they kept their old cabinets and brought the rest of the space up to date.

Before: Fifties to Fabulous

The kitchen had good bones and a decent layout, but the surface sorely needed a facelift.

After: Fifties to Fabulous

The focal point of the kitchen is the large peninsula that provides storage, prep space and a dining area. The floor looks high-end, but it is actually custom hand-cut vinyl laid in a herringbone pleat pattern. Along the wall, the original bottom cabinets were kept and new upper cabinets were installed.

After: Fifties to Fabulous

The renovation started by opening the wall between the kitchen and dining room and the porch door was moved over to make room for the nine-foot peninsula.

After: Flea Market Finds

The homeowners loved the big open space, but couldn't bear the sight of their old, dated and dysfunctional mess. A center island, new limestone flooring and new beadboard cabinets made the space functional and beautiful.

Before: Flea Market Finds

Even though the old kitchen had plenty of space, the room lacked storage. The cabinetry and border wallpaper on the soffit looks dated and dull.

After: Flea Market Finds

The homeowners now have a bright, open space with vintage character and a few retro finds. This remodel features recycled glass countertops, two antique table turned into a center island and a metal gate upcycled into a hanging pot rack.

After: Flea Market Finds

This island cost the homeowners just $90. A pair of console tables were set back to back then fitted together with a new butcherblock top. The in-lay stone rug adds personality to the neutral flooring.

A serving bar was integrated into a wall of cabinets. Subway-style backsplash and a solid-surface countertop add an elegant touch.

After: Traditional Meets Casual

This open-floor plan has everything to cook and entertain a crowd. The homeowners wanted to make the kitchen family friendly but with a touch of formality and elegance.

Before: Traditional Meets Casual

The homeowners had a lot of water damage to contend with. They came home from a camping trip to find a flood in their kitchen that extended into the living room, dining room and parts of the basement.

After: Traditional Meets Casual

The kitchen used to be closed off from the rest of the house. To open it up, the wall separating the kitchen from the living room was replaced with a large center island.

After: Traditional Meets Casual

Storage meets ambiance in the dining area. The cozy fireplace is surrounded by a pair of built-in China cabinets.

After: Traditional Meets Casual

A solid-surface countertop is paired with a three-dimensional stone backsplash.

After: European Sophistication

The homeowners wanted a rustic, open and earthy European kitchen. They acheived the look by mixing a soft color palette, natural textures and some antique charm.

Before: European Sophistication

The homeowners couldn't wait to lose their purple countertops, dated cabinets and boring floors. To make matters worse, they have a growing family and little space to make family dining practical.

After: European Sophistication

The apron-front sink with cream-color, stain-washed cabinets are the highlight of this new kitchen. A brick backsplash and concrete countertops add a contemporary edge to the traditional styling.

After: European Sophistication

A custom-built credenza and beverage cabinet was made with old wine crates.

After: Scandinavian Modern

Prior to the renovation, this home looked like a 1970s relic. Fortunately, these homeowners had a $35,000 budget in which to update their kitchen, fireplace and living area.

Before: Scandinavian Modern

Dated flooring, mismatched brick in the fireplace and old-school kitchen cabinets did nothing to emphasize this home's nice high ceiling and timber frame architecture.

After: Scandinavian Modern

The under-lit agate bar is the focal point of the new kitchen. White quartz countertops are illuminated with hand-blown glass pendent lights while the dark-wood cabinetry grounds the space and mimics the rich tone of the ceiling beams.

After: Scandinavian Modern

The stainless-steel pro-style range and hood vent contrast beautifully with the natural stone backsplash.

After: Classic with an Edge

These homeowners wanted more space to cook and entertain. Their previous kitchen was too cramped for family and friends. Licensed contractor James Young relocated the sink and removed a wall to widen the kitchen space.

Before: Classic with an Edge

The homeowners bought this fixer-upper home with the intention of remodeling the kitchen. Then they got married, had a baby and the renovation took a backseat.

After: Classic with an Edge

The glass panels slide open to allow access to items on the shelves. Hexagon tile backsplash made from Carrara marble add an elegant touch to this casual space.

After: Classic with an Edge

Walls were knocked down to expand the dining area. A charming trestle table creates an inviting family-friendly atmosphere.

After: Classic with an Edge

Wood shelves with a antiqued finish hold cookware and supplies. Storing goods this way allows the homeowners to show off the hexagon backsplash and also frees up space in the cabinets.
