To provide some much needed shade, plant a medium-sized tree such as Armstrong maple (Acer rubrum 'Armstrong') on the right side of the yard, at least 15 feet from the street. If possible, remove the small tree directly in front of the house. (This may be a city tree and need a permit for removal.)
