Valentine's Day Lapel Pins

Make your sweetie a DIY lapel pin just in time for a Valentine's Day night out on the town.

You don't need many supplies to give your guy or lady's favorite sport coat or blazer a Valentine's Day makeover. Craft felt can be transformed into small, simple roses, and freehand-cut hearts can create a whimsical look.

Blank lapel sticks and tie tacks can be found in most craft stores in the jewelry aisle. Whether you want to make a special lapel flower or a Valentine heart, the accessory decision is up to you and your special date.

SUPPLIES

  • craft felt sheets
  • fast-grab tacky glue
  • scissors
  • lapel stick pin or tie tack blanks

To make a rose, start out by cutting a strip from the felt that's about 1" wide and 10" long. Cut a wave-like pattern into the felt strip.

Next, apply a thin layer of tacky glue to the straight side of the felt.

Create the rose shape by carefully rolling the felt up. Pinch the rolled-up shape together to make sure the glue has bonded to the felt. Let dry.

For a heart decoration, simply fold a piece of craft felt in half and cut out one half of a heart shape. Add additional smaller hearts if you like.

Your felt creations can be added to lapel stick and tie tack blanks simply by apply a layer of strong tacky glue to the blank surface. Add your decoration on top of the blank, holding in place for a few minutes to create a strong bond once again. Let the accessories dry completely.
