Lynda Lyday, an experienced home-improvement expert and do-it-yourselfer, started out as an aspiring actor in New York City and ended up with her own construction company! Forgoing the traditional actor's sideline waiting tables, she instead joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, becoming both the first woman to win a Golden Hammer Award and the first to teach carpentry to union apprentices. At the same time, Lynda began writing and performing original sketch comedy material in theaters and cabarets, both as a solo performer and as a member of the all-woman comedy troupe, Four on the Floor, and the duo, Lyday and Oringer.
After launching her own construction company, in 1993, she became much sought after as a renovator of celebrity homes, and in 1997 she was invited to become the on-camera interior finish carpenter for the Discovery Channel's series Gimme Shelter. From there she moved on to HGTV's The Fix and Blitz Build. Lynda's first book, Lynda Lyday's Do It Yourself! The Room-by-Room, Step-by-Step Guide to the Most Popular Home Repair and Renovation Projects, will be released April 5, 2005, through Perigee Books. She is developing her signature brand of tools called Lyday Tool Line, which will also be released this year.
Lynda is presently negotiating a second book, but still finds the time to develop series and segment concepts for television. From fundamental home-repair techniques to advanced do-it-yourself projects, she brings a fresh clarity to weekend or everyday how-to projects. Her mission to educate and empower women and men to become capable DIYers keeps her busy! DIY Network is proud to have Lynda's services as one of the hosts of Talk2DIY Home Improvement and Best Built Home.
