Turn-of-the-Century — Archway

Episode DKTN-202

This kitchen makeover is at a 1910 Victorian owned by Cotty and Jason. The beautiful home has lots of charm but needs plenty of tender loving care. The new homeowners have already started to strip the painted woodwork on the main floor living and dining room and are now anxious to make the kitchen look great.

The kitchen features birch cabinets, but the rest of the design is circa 1970 and somewhere along the line the kitchen lost its charm. The layout is all wrong. The appliances don't fit in the space and right now there's no room for a dishwasher. The goal is to work with the existing cabinets and bring the kitchen back to its original beauty with all of the updates of today.

In the first episode the kitchen is cleared out. The archway from the kitchen to the eating area is reconfigured to create a doorway that now makes a spot for the refrigerator and the new cabinetry. A new sub-floor is installed in anticipation of the new Marmoleum flooring and the plumbing is prepped for the new wall-mount faucet.
