        How to Paint Wood Burle Shelves

        Step 1: Apply a Base Coat

        Apply a base coat, then allow to dry.

        Step 2: Mix and Apply the Glaze

        • Add three parts glaze to one part latex paint to create a topcoat glaze.

        • Next, apply a topcoat glaze over the base coat.

        • Pull a dry brush through the wet glaze to give a wood grain look.

        Step 3: Paint Knot-Like Circles in the Glaze

        Finally, use a toothpick and an artist's brush to paint half circles that look like wood knots.
