Remove the door and lay it on saw horses. Remove the hinges and door knob. Measure the door.
Transfer the measurements to a diagram of the door you want. This door features bead-board paneling on the bottom half of the door and chalkboard paint on the top half, so the door can be used as a message board in its new kitchen.
Using a level, mark a line across the bottom-half of the door, level with the top of the existing wainscoting in the kitchen. This will show how high to run the bead-board panels on the door. The door knob hole will be cut through the 1” x 3” framing.
Cut and measure the bead-board panels and attach them with the nailer to the bottom half of the door.
Using a router with a rabbet bit, cut a rabbet around the edge of the framing to attach snugly to the door and the bead-board panels.
Use wood glue and 1-1/4" nails to attach the framing. Use wood filler to fill the joint lines in the framing. Sand the filler when it hardens.
Make sure the old door knob can be adjusted to work with the new framing on the door. Using a 2-1/8" diameter hole saw, carefully drill the hole in the 1” x 3” framing stock for the door knob.
Prime and paint the door.
Put the door back on its hinges and attach the doorknob.
