        Gather Your Materials and Tools

        Materials and Tools:

        1/2-inch good quality plywood
        measuring tape
        jigsaw
        sandpaper
        wood filler
        primer
        paint
        brushes
large keyboard shelf sliding tracks (2)
        C brackets (4)
        power drill
        screwdriver
        1/4-inch wood screws

Choose a Spot for the Shelf

With a sliding shelf under a kitchen cabinet, your laptop is there when you need it, out of the way when you don’t.

Start by choosing location with easy access to electrical outlet.

To protect laptop, outlet should be surge protected.

Measure, Cut and Paint the Shelf

Measure laptop. Add at least 2 inches of width.

With jigsaw, cut shelf out of plywood.

Fill cracks or holes, and sand edges and surfaces.

To prevent warping, prime all surfaces, including back edge and bottom.

        Paint shelf and let dry.

        Attach the Sliding Tracks

Separate sliding tracks. Screw sliding parts of track to sides of shelf.

Screw track base to C brackets. Screw left-hand C brackets to underside of upper cabinet.

        Slip shelf into base track.

Mark exact position of C brackets on underside of cabinet.

Remove shelf and screw right-hand C brackets to cabinet.

        Install the Shelf

Insert shelf and make sure it slides smoothly.

Pull laptop cord behind shelf and place laptop on shelf.

Tip: If there's room, install a wider shelf for extra workspace.
