How to Stain a Hardwood Floor
Tackle this project yourself to save a bundle while giving your floors a fresh look.
Sand the floors completely and remove all sawdust.
Test the stain in an inconspicuous area of the floor or on a sample piece of wood before applying it to the entire floor.
Apply the stain with a rag or an applicator. Make sure it is applied evenly and watch for drips and pooling. Allow to dry completely per the stain’s instructions.
The stain only adds color or tone to the wood but does not protect the wood. Add a layer of polyurethane or another protection over the finished stain. Allow to dry.
Allow everything to set and dry completely before adding furniture or rugs into the space.
