How to Replace Ceiling Tiles with Drywall
These step-by-step instructions demonstrate how to remove and replace ceiling tiles with a drywall ceiling.
Because we don’t intend to tape the corners of our ceiling, we will cut off the compressed edge of the drywall and put that edge against the wall.
With a "Rock Ripper," score a line across the drywall at 3" (Image 1).
Give the drywall a little pressure and snap the cut piece off (Image 2).
Hold the drywall up against the ceiling and drill into the ceiling joists.
Tape the seams with self-adhesive mesh tape.
With a putty knife, spread mud, pushing it into the seams to ensure a strong seal.
