Find Joists

Use a detector to find the ceiling joists nearest your chosen point for the rose. Mark their position and the direction in which they run.

Mark Position

Hold the rosette or medallion in position and mark where the joists cross it. Also draw a pencil guide line on the ceiling around the rose’s circumference.

Drill Holes

Drill holes for attachments in the areas that will align with the joists. Use a slow drill speed to avoid cracking the rose.

Enlarge Attachment Holes

Enlarge the entrances to the attachment holes with a countersink bit. Again, be sure to use a slow drill speed.

Finish Hole Enlargement

Withdraw the countersink bit when a hole is large enough to accommodate the heads of your chosen attachments.

Apply Adhesive

Prepare the adhesive according to product instructions and use a filling knife to apply a good covering of adhesive across the back of the rosette or medallion.

Place Rosette or Medallion on Ceiling

Position the rosette or medallion on the ceiling, inside the edge guide line and with holes in line with the joists. Apply light, even pressure.

Secure Rosette or Medallion to the Ceiling

Attach wood screws through the holes in the rosette or medallion and into the joists. Do not over-tighten them, or the piece may crack.

Fill and Sand Holes

Use adhesive or filler to fill the attachment holes. Fill around the edge of the rosette or medallion, and smooth with a damp sponge. Once the filler is dried, sand the filling holes and around the edge of the piece if necessary to achieve a smooth, even finish.
