Garages Reinvented, Goldberg Style

Starting with Jay Leno's personal auto stable, a fresh batch of garages get the extreme makeover treatment from Bill Goldberg and the Garage Mahal team.

Jay Leno's Garage, Before

Who would've thought that Tonight Show host and avid automotive enthusiast Jay Leno would have a garage that's his secret shame? When he leaves work he may have more than 200 vehicles to pick from, but when Jay drives home in a Lamborghini Gallardo or 1955 Mercedes Gullwing, it has to compete for space with piles of dirty clothes and a growing mound of memorabilia.

Now that Bill Goldberg and the Garage Mahal crew have given Leno's garage the makeover treatment, it's a space far better suited to its regal automotive inhabitants.

The garage's downstairs, which incorporates a hydraulic motorcycle lift, is now outfitted with a casual seating area, custom lighting, wood paneled cabinets and built-in shelving to house a massive collection of car magazines. The king of late night now has a garage that's arguably fit for a king.

There are actually two garages on the premises at Jay's residence: an older structure that was part of the original home and a second, more spacious one that was built later. Over time, both have become repositories for clutter.

The redesigned and reinvented garage features, among other luxury amenities, a 30-foot stainless workbench and a motorized auto-turntable that makes backing out a thing of the past. New directional lighting, Italian tile and exposed wood beams all combine to provide a more opulent setting for Jay's vintage and rare automobiles.

BMX Garage, Before

A sports oriented California family has a garage filled with motocross bikes along with gear for outdoor activities ranging from surfing and snowboarding to biking and skateboarding. Alas, it's all one cluttered mess.

With the space de-cluttered, the dirt bikes have found a much happier home. A glass-front display cabinet provides the perfect venue for housing sports equipment or showing off trophies and mementos. The specially designed skateboard half-pipes include integrated storage to further enhance space utilization.

Organization and well-planned storage is key in this transformed garage. A modular wall-mounted storage system and roomy cabinets provide better accommodation for tools and equipment than assorted cardboard boxes and bare concrete floors.

Casino Garage, Before

Chris and Sherry's garage suffers from a common carport malady. It's long since ceased to function as a garage in any traditional sense and has been overtaken by an overabundance of stuff.

Casino Garage, Before

Owners Chris and Sherry describe their garage with terms like "disaster area" and "junk magnet." Amidst the clutter is a poker table that nominally serves the purpose for Chris' weekly poker nights, but the space could scarcely be called inviting. The fantasy scenario: transform this eyesore of a garage into a sleek and stylish casino.

Newly outfitted in a Vegas theme, the transformed garage sports authentic casino carpet, a black-jack table that doubles as a bar, sliding glass doors, directional track lighting, wall mounted flat-screen TV and a vintage casino marquis.

The granite-top poker table, like other new fixtures in the casino garage, was a salvage item — procured directly from a used casino-furniture dealer in Las Vegas. A highlight feature is a gaming table that might even pass muster with Frank and Dean.

Game Room Garage, Before

The Daly family's garage, informally dubbed "a cornucopia of crud," has gotten so overrun with junk that it gives the owners feelings of claustrophobia. Coming up with practical storage solutions is the first step in this remake that will also focus on creating a game room for family gatherings, entertaining or just a quiet getaway.

The newly cleared out and renovated space has room enough for a pool table and informal seating area while incorporating plenty of cabinet and open storage, wall-mounted TV, carpet tiles and track lighting — all while retaining enough room to park the car.

What was once a haven for junk is now an open, versatile space with new sink, lots of counter space, attractive lighting, a reworked entryway into the house and better attic access.
