Tips for Compost Tools
To keep your composting process running smoothly, consider investing in some of these handy tools.
A compost thermometer is a good way to find out whether or not your compost engine is fired up. You stick the thermometer down into the center of the pile to get the best reading. Compost piles can get well over 100 degrees, high temperature lets you know the compost is working.
A compost turner is a helpful tool for mixing compost layers. Put the handle down into the compost pile and lift and turn as you pull it out. This brings the compost from the bottom to the top, spreading good enzymes through the pile. Turning your compost will help you break down the whole pile.
Compost enzyme helps a pile that just isn't firing up the way it's supposed to. You sprinkle the enzyme on the compost and turn the pile to work it through all of the layers. The enzymes encourage growth of good bacteria. These bacteria break down the plant waste into usable compost.
Another product is the recyclable compost bag. You collect your food scraps right in it and then throw the entire bag into the compost. The bag breaks down with the rest of the waste.
