Bridal Brunch: Monogrammed Wood Place Setting
Monogrammed wood chargers and hand-decorated plates help bring a vibrant country feel for an elegant bridal brunch, or any dining room table.
Monogrammed Wood-Burned Charger and Découpaged Glass Brunch Plate
Materials and Tools:
Walnut Hollow rectangular Basswood Country Planks (one for each place setting)
Walnut Hollow Versatool Wood Burner tool
light honeywood stain
1. Print a monogram or design, using a large, decorative font. Traditionally the bride's first initial is to the left, the groom's family surname is in the center and the groom's first initial is to the right.
2. Place the transfer paper, graphite side down, on the wood plaque. Use a ruler to measure and center the monogram on the plaque. Tape the monogram in place and trace the design with a pencil.
3. Heat the wood-burning tool and burn the monogram into the plaque, carefully pressing and dragging the tip over the wood.
4. Use a ruler and pencil to draw additional designs, such as branches and/or leaves, on the plate.
5. Burn designs into the plaque. Repeat for each place setting. Unplug and cool the wood-burning tool after the last design is burned.
6. Following the manufacturer's instructions, apply wood stain to the charger and let it dry.
Découpaged Glass Brunch Plates
Materials and Tools:
dinner-sized clear glass plates
skeleton leaves (2 per plate)
foam paint brush
1. Pour a small amount of decoupage medium on a piece of waxed paper.
2. Drop a skeleton leaf into the medium; tap the leaf with a finger to help the medium soak through.
3. Turn a glass plate upside down. Carefully lift the leaf and press it onto the edge of one side of the plate's back.
4. Apply découpage medium with a cotton swab to the surface of the leaf, as necessary. If découpage medium spills on the plate or runs off the leaf, spray a cotton swab with window cleaner and gently clean it off.
5. Repeat these steps with another leaf, applying the design directly across from the other one.
6. Set the plate aside to dry. These plates are for one use only; the leaves can be soaked off after the meal.
