Look Under the Mattress

When closed, the drawers on this queen- and king-sized bed from Seahawk Designs Inc. are hidden. Open them to reveal extra storage space.

Dual-Purpose Room

The sofa bed from Rowe Furniture is not the only dual-functioning piece in this multipurpose guest room/office. The decorative wrought-iron gate, once used on a fire escape, can now hold belts and scarfs. The file drawers on this makeshift desk offer guests a place to store their clothing. The basket alongside the chair stores extra blankets and doubles as a side table.

Functional Art

As a folding chair it’s comfortable and eye pleasing. Fold it up, hang it on the wall, and it becomes a work of art. Called Folditure, this architecturally crafted folding chair, is designed by Alexander Gendell.

Solo or Duo

These cube-shaped ottomans from Rowe Furniture's Robin Bruce Line work great alone or with a partner. Take off the removable top, flip it over and it becomes a serving tray. You can also stuff toys, a small pillow or a single blanket inside.

Put Your Feet Up

This classic ottoman from Rowe Furniture comes in bold colors and provides storage space for blankets, games, books or just about anything. Thanks to its size, the ottoman also doubles as a table.

Study Time

One of Melody Rubin's clients wanted a place in the family room where the kids could do their homework. So she custom-designed a wood desk, added drawers for storage and a glass top to protect it. The bright orange bench stores papers and can be moved around the room for additional seating.

Show Off Your Collections

Designer Nathan Turner has a knack for artfully displaying books, photographs and other items that should be in the spotlight. This oversize ottoman houses books, works as a coffee table and has storage inside. The screen is ideal for hanging art and photographs.
