Step 1: Watch an Overview Video

Step 2: Gather Your Materials and Tools

        Materials and Tools:

        4x8-foot lattice & molding
        2x2-inch pressure-treated boards
        galvanized screws
        hinges
        speed square
        gate latch
        power drill and bits
        carpenter's level
        circular saw
        miter saw
        safety goggles
        ear protection

Step 3: Cut and Install Supports

Installing deck lattice is an easy way to upgrade your house and create extra outdoor storage.

Tip: If posts are more than 4 feet apart, install non-load-bearing uprights at 4-foot intervals.

With a circular saw, cut 2x2-inch supports the length of deck posts and the distance along ground between them.

Using exterior-grade deck screws, attach vertical supports to posts.

        Complete frame with horizontal support.

Step 4: Cut Lattice Molding and Panels

Measure and cut sections of lattice molding to fit each space. Leave opening for door.

Make inside miter cut on each corner.

With circular saw, cut lattice panels to fit spaces.

Tip: Allow 1/4 inch on each side for expansion and contraction of panels.

Slope lattice if necessary to fit ground.

        Step 5: Secure Lattice

        Snap lattice panels into molding.

Make sure all lattice panels face same way.

Pre-drill holes through molding and screw lattice in place.

        Step 6: Install Lattice Door

Build 2x4-inch support for door by toe nailing top into deck and securing bottom with stake.

Frame opening with 2x4 attached with deck screws.

Cut lattice panel to fit door opening, allowing 1/4 inch on each side for expansion and contraction.

        Frame lattice with trim.

        Attach lattice door with hinges.

        Attach handle on outside.

Attach gravity thumb latch to keep door closed.
