Gas Fireplace inserts

I'm looking to install a gas fireplace insert. Can not decide between a ventless gas fireplace or ventless gas logs?Like the look of my existing fireplace,don't think I want to cover the facing with a trim plate. Have found some ventless gas logs and fireplace inserts at www.ventless-gas-logs.com

What about a face-less fireplace?

We have a fireplace that has had the face brick and hearth removed... What kind of unit (gas fireplace or gas insert would work best? We would like to cover the remaining brick with concrete board and install tile but we also want the fireplace to have only a very small trim piece.

Hmmm, somewhat useless instructions

I am a DIYer and always appreciative of the folks who take the time to share their knowledge. In this particular case, it seems this was an article placed here to draw advertisers instead of DIYers.

These "step-by-step" instructions lack significant detail and illustrations. For example, Step 1 that instructs "Attach the Vent Pipes"; attached to what? If using a chimney flu, are the pipes simply vented into the flu, up and out; to a cover, through the back wall, ... What about the challenges of removing the damper and some possible suggestions like using an angle grinder, dust mask, goggles, chisel, vacuum...?

Come on, who are we fooling here. This article is liken to "How to Change the Brakes on Your Car"; and the instructions include:
- Remove the wheels
- Remove old brakes
- Install new brakes
- Reinstall wheels
- Congratulations, you're done!

Let's hear from someone who has the writing skill to go along with the technical skill.

Hard to follow due to errors

Step 2: Looks like Image 1 is actually Image 2, need a correct Image 1.
Step 4: First sentence electrical portion makes no sense: "If your existing fireplace...has electric connections for a fan, branch lines for [this service] must be installed." ????
Needs pictures for the later steps as it is difficult to know what is being described.

Heat and Glo Gas Insert

I was hoping for a Parts-List. When I talk to "installers" they figure the parts needed are around
$300. I already have the gas line installed, have the remote. So where do i get a parts-list please?

Otherwise the directions seem fine.
