Step 1: Insert a Tip Attachment

The tip you choose depends on the size of the lines you want to draw. Thin tips are good for drawing lines whereas thicker tips are better for shading.

Insert a tip attachment into the woodburning tool and allow it to heat up according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Step 2: Create a Design

To create a design, use the woodburning pen as you would an ink pen but moving slowly (Image 1). Hold it down on the work piece for a few seconds to give the wood time to burn.

To make straight lines, use a metal ruler as a straightedge (Image 2).

Step 3: Add Color

Dip a cotton swab in paint or wood stain to add color. Brush the swab over the burns in the work piece.
