Use a pencil to draw several lines diagonally across the surface that will be sanded. Next, draw a second set of lines that intersect the first set and create a crisscross pattern on the surface.
Use a wide belt sander to sand the surface diagonally, following the first set of lines (Image 1). Start with an 80-grit belt.
Sand in the opposite direction, following the second set of pencil marks (Image 2).
