Step 1: Replace Insulation

Once in the attic, replace the missing insulation. To help maintain its loft, avoid pressing down the insulation or compressing it into tight spaces.

When installing insulation with a paper vapor barrier, make sure the vapor barrier faces the living space per manufacturer's instructions.

Use a straightedge to carefully guide the utility knife and cut from the paper side.
