  • Time

    Under Half Day

  • Price Range

    $50 - $100

  • Difficulty

    Easy to Moderate

Step 1: Determine Where the Hole Will Be

Measure and mark the wall for the placement of the vent. Shove the cut end of a wire coat hanger up through the ceiling to use as a reference mark (in the attic, in this case). The hanger determines where the hole will need to be in the stud cavity.

Step 2: Make the Cutout

Back in the kitchen, mark the center point and use a drill with a hole saw attachment to make the cutout.

Step 3: Remove the Old Ducting

Place the ducting on the vent, hold it up in place and mark where the vent pipe hits the ceiling. Remove the old ducting. Assemble the duct pieces to connect them to the new cutout. Dry fit the pieces before permanently connecting them with aluminum tape.
