How to Repair Sink Drywall

These step-by-step instructions show how to complete a simple drywall repair underneath a bathroom sink to prevent mice from finding a way into the home.

Step 1: Cut the Drywall

Cut a 5"x 5" square in the drywall around the plumbing. Cut a 5"x 5" section of drywall. Leave 1" of extra paper on all sides for easy installation.

Step 2: Seal the Drywall

Apply drywall tape around the edges; seal with joint compound to hold the patch in place and give a smooth, seamless appearance.

Make sure that the small spaces around the drainpipe and the supply line are taped and covered with mud as well.

Once the drywall is dry, sand it smooth. Apply additional coats as needed.
