Cut a 5"x 5" square in the drywall around the plumbing. Cut a 5"x 5" section of drywall. Leave 1" of extra paper on all sides for easy installation.
Apply drywall tape around the edges; seal with joint compound to hold the patch in place and give a smooth, seamless appearance.
Make sure that the small spaces around the drainpipe and the supply line are taped and covered with mud as well.
Once the drywall is dry, sand it smooth. Apply additional coats as needed.
