How to Remove a Garage Door

Step 1: Release the Springs and Tension

Carefully remove the garage door by loosening the tension bolt that releases the springs and tension (Image 1).

Use a screwdriver to pry off the support cables (Image 2).

Step 2: Remove the Panels

Gently let down the door (Image 1).

Remove the bolts, arms and wheels of the door (Image 2).

Remove the panels in four sections (Image 3).

Step 3: Remove the Tracts and Trim

Remove the spring assembly from its mount, both of the door tracts (Image 1) and the garage door opener.

Next, remove the trim around the garage door opening with a pry bar (Image 2).
