Step 1: Remove the Cabinet Hardware

Tip: Paint from top to bottom to minimize drips.

Remove any items in cabinets or drawers, and then remove the hardware from drawers and take off the cabinet doors and drawer faces.

Step 2: Take Down the Cabinet Boxes

Take down the cabinet boxes carefully.

Step 3: Reattach the Cabinet Boxes

Reattach the cabinet boxes to the new, desired height, securing the cabinet by sinking screws into the studs in the wall.

Step 4: Apply Wood Putty to Divots or Holes

Fill any unwanted divots or holes on the doors and drawer faces with wood putty.

Step 5: Sand the Cabinet

Sand cabinet doors, drawer faces, cabinet faces and frames to eliminate old paint, varnish or gloss.

Step 6: Paint the Cabinet Doors

Paint or varnish the doors to the desired finish and replace handles and hardware on drawers and doors and reattach to cabinets.
