Highlights:

Step 1: Prepare the Area

First prime the surface and tape off the area. Mix the primer with the paint color to save a step. Then paint in the base colors of each part of the rug.

Step 2: Add the Paint

Sponge a faux finish on the body of the rug and add stripes to the blue border. Make a cardboard template for the sections of the honeycomb. After finding the exact center of the rug and, starting at that point, trace the honeycomb design on the entire area. Next, use a light color to line the individual honeycomb sections.

Step 3: Finish the Rug

For added dimension, side-load a brush with a darker color and shade three sides of each honeycomb. Then add the bees. Use a good pair of kneepads to save yourself a lot of discomfort when you work on this type of project. After the paint dries completely, finish the surface with polyurethane, applied with a long-handled roller for convenience. Seal the paint with a clear floor sealer appropriate for the type of floor you've painted.
