        Highlights:

        Step 1: Cut Lumber

First, choose the material that suits your home’s style. After measuring around the window, measure, mark and cut the planks down to the dimensions you need. Line the planks up on a flat surface and swap out any pieces that don’t achieve the look you want.

        Step 2: Assemble Shutters

Measure the width of the shutter panel and cut two brace pieces, which will keep the panels firmly together and serve as support. Place the braces across the width of the shutter, leaving 5 inches off the top and bottom and an inch on both sides. Once you’ve determined the placement, put wood glue on the back of the braces and tack them into the shutter panel.

        Step 3: Install Shutters

Let the glue dry and attach the shutters to your window, using a nail gun.
