Measure and mark four boards to a length of 51" and four more boards to 5-1/2".
Set the miter saw to a 45 degree angle, then cut both ends of all the boards.
Using a 3" hole saw, cut out a hole in the center of the two 51" boards. Sand, then polyurethane the exposed sides of each board.
Assemble the box using finish nails.
Feed the light fixture wires through the 3" hole, then attach the lamp to the board using mounting screws.
Locate and mark the studs in your wall, then pre-drill corresponding holes in the lamp board. Position the board, then screw it to the wall.
Make the electrical connections or have an electrician do the work.
Put the bulb in the fixture.
