Stand on a wooden plank so that you do not damage the newly laid turf. Once the lawn is finished, use a stiff broom to brush a good quality top-dressing into any cracks. No mulch should be left on the surface.
Do this frequently over the next few days to draw the roots down into the soil and to help it establish. Once the lawn starts to root, it can have its first cut at the mower's maximum height.
