Measure to the first floor joist to ensure the edge of the cement board lines up with it. Transfer that measurement to the board and draw a line with a straight edge.
To cut holes, make a cardboard template, mark the board on both sides and score it (Image 1). Then, tap the circle with a hammer to remove it (Image 2).
Once all the boards are in place, mark the joist locations and secure the boards down with cement board screws.
