Paint the walls of the "locker room" section using a special magnetic paint. This specialized paint is available through paint suppliers and contains tiny magnetic metal filings that allow metal decorative objects to stick to the wall magnetically. Apply the magnetic paint to the walls like a primer and let it dry for 24 hours. Additional coats of the paint will increase the magnetic strength and sticking power.
Once the magnetic paint has been applied, paint over it with ordinary wall paint. We selected a red paint to match the red lockers that are being installed. Be sure to protect adjacent borders, trim, etc. with masking tape. Apply paint to the wall spaces using a paint roller, and to painted trim using a small brush.
Once the painting is complete, install the lockers. This eight-locker unit was measured to ensure a good fit in the existing space. Lockers can be found at warehouse outlet stores, or you may be able to find used ones when schools or health clubs are replacing their lockers.
Once the lockers are installed, personalize each one (Image 1). Decorate the lockers with a wide assortment of baseball-related images and memorabilia. The finished storage lockers (Image 2) provide each of the kids with their own personal storage space. For authenticity, padlocks were installed on each of the lockers (Image 3 ).
