wave of the future if you have enough $$$$$

I have looked into solar panels for the generation of electricity as well as home size wind turbines in an attempt to take my own home "off grid" . The biggest drawback I have found is the expense. The required amout of panels foe a 2000 sq. ft. home to come off line would cost upwards of $60,000.00 dollars and would take 7 years to recoop that kind of investment at the cost of electricity here (which is outragous longer if you get electricity cheaper than Dominion Power. The cost of wind turbines (home size the ones by Honeywell is app. $5,000.00 to $6,000.00 each . In this economy the only people who can afford to retrofit this technology are the ones that do not need it. Do not get me wrong I would love to outfit my home with all this but the average shmoo I don't see as being able to do this at all. If you were building a new home I would have all this specified in the new construction and added into the entire financing to spread it out with the motgage,

Is the correct math?

When I tried to do the calculations, it seemed like the panels should have put out a lot more kWh per year. If the math is correct, I would say the project is not worth it and you would be better off putting the money toward more efficient lighting, appliances and insulation. If you are 100% off grid, or the cost to run power lines is prohibitive, well, that changes things.

I had found your installation of solar panels informative and also the video clip on solar energy. My question has to do with finding qualified intallers for solar power system in northeast pennslyvania (18104.
