How To Install a Window Seat

A window seat is an ideal storage feature, tucked out of the way, that provides an added accent for a log cabin.
        • Time

          Weekend

        • Price Range

          $100 - $250

        • Difficulty

          Moderate to Hard

        In this Project you will:

Step 1: Measure and Frame the Space

Calculate measurements for how large the space is and how large the seat should be. Frame the inside with 2x4s ledger boards along the walls where the top of the seat will be positioned and at the floor level as well.

Step 2: Install the Cross Boards and Trim

Install 2x4 cross boards between the fronts of the top ledger boards. Nail trim to wall, then add caulk around the trim.

        Step 3: Add the Seat

For storage in the top of the seat, measure and cut the opening. Attach piano hinges to lift up the top of the seat. Frame and seal with caulk. For the outside of the seat, consider a rustic-look natural bark exterior and/or a tongue-and-groove decking to top the seat.
