        How to Install a Tub and Shower Doors

        Ed the Plumber shows how to remove an old shower/tub combination replace it with a new one. His step-by-step instructions also explain how to install shower doors.

        In this Project you will:

        Step 1: Measure and Remove the Tub

        Measure the old tub to find out what size the new tub should be. Remove the old tub, and then clean the area of debris.

        Step 2: Install the Tub, and Hang the Walls

        Slide the tub into place, and then secure it to the studs (Image 1). Hang the surrounding walls making sure the tongue and groove enclosures are in alignment. Secure the walls to the surrounding studs (Image 2).

        Step 3: Prepare the Plumbing

        Prepare all of the necessary plumbing fixtures (image 1), and then attach the hot and cold water lines using basic soldering techniques (image 2).

        Step 4: Install the Shower Doors

        To install the shower doors, position the side jams, and then place the bottom and top tracks (Image 1), and tighten them with and Allen wrench. Slide the glass doors on the track (Image 2), and then lay the center piece. Caulk around the track to make sure it's water tight.
