        Highlights:

        Step 1: Prep Ceiling

The first step is to prime and wipe down your ceiling so that it is free of debris and dust. A clean surface is necessecary for the adhesive to form a strong bond.

Step 2: Measure and Make Chalk Line Grid

Measure your ceiling and consider the size of the ceiling tiles you bought. Depending on how the measurements work out, you will probably end up with cut tiles somewhere in the room. If you must make cuts, it’s best to put your cut tiles on the outside edges, dividing the cut portion between both sides of the room for greater symmetry. Transfer your measurements to the ceiling using a chalk box so you’ll have nice, straight guide lines to follow.

Step 3: Cut and Install First Row of Tiles

Take the measurements for your first row of tiles (determined in Step 2), and transfer that to the tin ceiling tiles. Use a T-square to make sure your cuts are straight, and cut the tiles with tin snips or a utility knife (Image 1). Apply polyurethane based construction adhesive to the back of the tiles and hang them one at a time, starting in the corner (Image 2). Be sure to follow the guide lines you’ve created for yourself.

TIP: The edges of the tiles are designed to snap together in a tongue and groove fashion that will hide the seams. Different edges of the tile will have either the tongue or the groove, so make sure your tiles are all oriented the same way before you make your cuts.

        Step 4: Installing Remaining Tiles

After the first row has been installed, begin the second row of tiles. This time, however, you should be using full tiles. The process is the same as the first row, so installation should move very quickly. When you get to a recessed light or receptical in the ceiling, simply mark the shape and location on the back of the tile and cut it out using tin snips, sheers, or a utility knife.

        Step 5: Add Finishing Touches

The tiled ceiling is now complete, but to hide the cut edges along the outside perimeter of the ceiling, you will want to frame out the room with a decorative crown molding.
