          Moderate to Hard

        Highlights:

        Step 1: Install the Hardware

Install the pivot hardware. Use a cordless drill with the screws that were supplied with the kit.

        Step 2: Mark the Studs

Mark the studs above the closet because you will need to nail the valance into the studs after the unit is in place (image 1). Measure up at least 88 inches because the height of the bookcase and the valance together are 86 inches and the marks need to be visible after the bookcase is in place. Use a stud finder to mark the studs (image 2).

        Step 3: Lift the Bookcase

Lift the bookcase into place, making sure the pivot brackets on the bookcase match up with the pivot bushing on the threshold.

        Step 4: Attach the Valance

To attach the valance, make sure to use spacers provided with the kit to avoid the valance from rubbing up against the bookcase when the door is opened (image 1). Once the pivot brackets are lined up, hammer them into place (image 2).

        Step 5: Secure the Valance

Secure the valance to the wall. Make pilot holes below the marking on the studs, and screw the valance to the wall. Never attach the valance with drywall anchors. Securely attach the valance to the wall studs above the door.
