More in Kitchen
A good place to start when sprucing up a kitchen is with the cabinets. New decorative handles, knobs and pulls are very easy to install. Selecting hardware that matches the existing holes will eliminate the need to fill old holes and drill new ones.
Corbels can be used to build shelving in select areas of the kitchen. If the corbel will bear any weight, it should be installed on a wall stud.
If your kitchen could use more workspace, you can build a kitchen island using a solid or laminate countertop or butcher block.
Select decorative legs (Image 1) for the island that coordinate with the corbels. Apply glue to each leg before driving in screws for extra strength.
Don’t nail or glue the island legs to the floor; let it float to allow for expansion and contraction (Image 2).
